Let’s make your dream or goal a REALITY!

Okay, so we are going to continue from where we left off last.

  • You have visualized your dream.
  • You have written down your dream.
  • You have a picture of your dream.
  • You have felt what it will feel like when you have accomplished your dream.
  • You have written down the obstacles that you think you will have, along with several solutions for each obstacle.

You’ve taken a great step. Most people don’t even bother writing them down, let alone the rest. Now we are going to kick it up a few notches to make your dream, your goal, your resolution, become a reality.

We are going to start on a fresh piece of paper. At the top you will write what your dream is and when you want to accomplish it by.

Now, I want you to break it down some. Let’s say you want to lose 50 pounds this year. When you say it like that, most of the time it seems insurmountable, but it’s not. If you break it down to you want to lose 1 pound a week, that seems reasonable and very do-able, doesn’t it?

The next thing you need to write down is to write down what actions you will need to do to accomplish your dream. This is what will make the difference between success and failure. You MUST take action for any dream or goal to become reality.

If you want to quit smoking by the end of the year, we can do that a bit differently. Realistically, if you are a smoker, it may take several attempts to finally quit smoking. I would recommend that for the first month, you get mentally prepared to quit. You also need to be prepared on how you want to quit. Do you want to use the gum, patches, lozenge, shots, pills, hypnosis, group counseling, or personal/phone/online support? Look into all your options and plan ahead. I would recommend that you do some research on the Internet about all the ways to quit smoking and everything that is available to you.

Next you need to write down when you are going to start working on your dream. You will also write how often you will be checking your results. Do you want to check every week, every other week, or once a month?

Now I want you to write how you will feel once you have reached your dream. I want you to take a bit of time and think about it and feel it.

Next, you should write down all the ways that you and your family would benefit from reaching your goal.

On another sheet, you will keep track of your results.

At the top right hand side, you will need to put your starting point. It could be what your weight is at the time you start your dream, it could be how many cigarettes you are smoking at the time, it could be how much money you are making with your home based business, etc.

On the left hand side, put how often you will be checking your results, every week, 2 weeks, etc. along with the date that you will be checking at that point.

In the middle, you should write down what your results should be at that date. That way you have a short-term goal to reach that is measurable.

On the right hand side you record what the results actually are at that date.

You will want and need these milestones to follow along your way towards your goal. Your goal needs to be measurable. When you see the small short-term goals that you have reached along the way, it is incredibly empowering!

Here’s an example:

  1. I want to lose 50 pounds in one year.
  2. That equates to losing 1 pound a week. That is and sounds very do-able. That is something that you don’t have to sweat bullets to accomplish.
  3. To do that, I need to exercise daily and watch what I eat. I don’t have to exercise for 2 hours every day and only eat bunny food. (That’s lettuce and carrots for those who didn’t know.)
  4. I will check my results ever other week and my starting date is 1/7/08.
  5. Once I have reached my goal, I will feel good looking for my husband. I will have more energy to do everything I want to do.
  6. My family and I will benefit from reaching my goal by me being healthier, having more energy, and I can do more with my family.
  7. My starting point is: XXX pounds. In two weeks on 1/21/08 I should be XXX pounds. In four weeks on 2/4/08 I should be XXX pounds.

From there, write your obstacles and solutions and the affirmations to go along with your goal. Example – I love being slimmer. I have more energy. I can keep up with my daughter now.

When you take any goal, dream or resolution and think it through like this and you break it down to ‘bite-sized’ measurable chunks, you can see that you really can do anything you want.

‘Anything the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.’ Napoleon Hill

With that in mind, you have conceived a dream, with working through the steps above; you can then believe that you can achieve your dream. With action towards your dream, you CAN achieve it. I KNOW that you can achieve any dream you have, just have to put some effort and will power into it.

I want to hear how you are doing with your dreams/goals/resolutions. Leave your comment with how you feel about what is written here and with what your goal is and how you’re coming along with it. I want to know how you’re doing.

This is a little taste of the trainings I do. To find out more about me, check out http://www.rosebassett.net/. Each week I will post more information on my blog that can be helpful for you, whether you have a home business or not.
